Phenethyltriphenylphosphonium bromide is classified as an arylphosophonium salt. Studies have shown that various arylphosphonium salts interact with DNA to modulate cytotoxicity. Substituted triphenylbenzyl phosphonium salts have also been studied as antibacterial agents by quarternization of triphenylphosphine with benzyl halides.
