A nucleoside diphosphate derived from phosphorylation of Thymidine. It is produced from Thymidine monophosphate by Thymidylate kinase (TMPK), a nucleoside monophosphate kinase and can be futher phosphorylated to its active triphosphate antiviral or antitumor moieties. A proximate precursor for DNA synthesis.
