The protein encoded by this gene contains a THAP domain, which is a conserved DNA-binding domain that has striking similarity to the site-specific DNA-binding domain (DBD) of Drosophila P element transposases. THAP11, also known as Ronin, is a 3644kD member of the Thanatos-associated protein family. It is ubiquitously expressed and through its repression of cMyc transcription, blocks cell proliferation. Human THAP11 is 314aa in length. It contains a DNA binding THAP zinc-finger domain (aa5-81), an NLS (aa98-104 a polyGln region (aa104-146 an Ala-rich segment (aa 197-221 and a C-terminal coiled coil region (aa255-305 THAP11 is phosphorylated on Thr25. Over aa226-314 human and mouse THAP11 are 100% identical in aa sequence.
