SMPD1, ASM, Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase, Acid sphingomyelinase

The protein encoded by this gene is a lysosomal acid sphingomyelinase that converts sphingomyelin to ceramide. The encoded protein also has phospholipase C activity. Defects in this gene are a cause of Niemann-Pick disease type A (NPA) and Niemann-Pick disease type B (NPB). Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq].

Applications
Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry and Indirect Flow Cytometry. Other applications have not been tested.
Recommended Dilutions
Western Blot: 1:4000 Immunohistochemistry (FFPE): 1:500 Requires HIER using EDTA, pH 8.0 buffer pH 9.0 prior to staining. Indirect Flow Cytometry: 1:25 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
