Specifications

FGF-acidic is one of 23 known members of the FGF family.Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development and postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation.FGF-acidic is a non-glycosylated heparin binding growth factor that is expressed in the brain, kidney, retina, smooth muscle cells, bone matrix, osteoblasts, astrocytes and endothelial cells.FGF-acidic has the ability to signal through all the FGF receptors.Recombinant murine FGF-acidic is a 15.9kD protein consisting of 141 amino acid residues.

Biological ActivityAssay #1: The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by 3T3 cells in the presence of heparin is ~0.5ng/ml corresponding to a specific activity of ~2x10e6 units/mg.
Assay #2: The ED50 was determined by a cell proliferation assay using balb/c 3T3 cells is ~0.2ng/ml in the presence of 10ug/ml heparin, corresponding to a specific activity of ~5x10e6 units/mg.

Storage and StabilityStore lyophilized products at -20°C. For reconstituted solutions of most products, we recommend short-term storage at 4°C. For longer term storage the protein solution should be stored with a carrier protein (eg. 0.1% BSA) in working aliquots and stored frozen at -20°C. Additional freeze/thaw cycles may cause some denaturation of the protein.
