Fibroblast growth factor 1 (acidic), also known as FGF1/ECGF/HBGF1, is a human gene which is mapped to 5q31. Human FGF1 shares 96% amino acid sequence homology with both rat and mouse. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. This protein functions as a modifier of endothelial cell migration and proliferation, as well as an angiogenic factor. It acts as a mitogen for a variety of mesoderm- and neuroectoderm-derived cells in vitro, thus is thought to be involved in organogenesis. Additionally, Acidic fibroblast growth factor is derived from beta-endothelial cell growth factor (ECGFB) by posttranslational processing. Alpha-ECGF is also derived from ECGFB in the same manner.

Applications
Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications have not been tested.
Recommended Dilutions
Western Blot: 0.1-0.5ug/ml Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin): 0.5-1ug/ml. Boiling the paraffin sections in 10mM citrate buffer, pH 6 for 20 minutes is required for the staining of formalin/paraffin sections. ELISA: 0.1-0.5ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability
Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 12 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Immunogen
Recombinant protein corresponding to human FGF1, expressed in E. coli (Position: F16-D155). Species Sequence Homology: mouse and rat, 96%
Form
Supplied as a lyophilized powder from PBS, 0.05% sodium azide. Reconstitute with 200ul sterile ddH2O.
Purity
Purified by immunoaffinity chromatography.
Specificity
Recognizes human FGF1.
