Acetylcholinesterase (AChE, EC.3.1.1.7.) is an enzyme located in the postsynaptic membrane and in the muscle endplates, where it hydrolyses the neurotransmitter acetylcholin. AChE from brain is a tetramer (G4-AChE) with a molecular mass of 320kD, AChE from erythrocytes is a dimer (G2-AChE) with a molecular mass of 170kD (1,2).

ApplicationsSuitable for use in ELISA, Erythroadsorption Immunoassay (EAIA), Western Blot. Other applications not tested.
Recommended DilutionOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and StabilityMay be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot and add glycerol (40-50%). Freeze at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

ImmunogenBrain acetylcholinesterase, human, purified and detergent solubilized (1).
SpecificityHas specificity for human acetylcholinesterase. No cross-reaction is seen with human BtChE, or with AChE from flounder or Torpedo marmorata.
Reacts with both G2-and G4-AChE (native detergent soluble) in ELISA and EAIA using the antibody as capture antibody. Reacts 17 times stronger with human brain AChE than with human erythrocyte AChE.
