| The A1 Adenosine Receptor is involved in smooth muscle contraction, control of heart rate, sedation, and lipolysis. Expression of the adenosine A1 receptor has been reported in the central nervous system, particularly in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, thalamus, striatum, and cerebellum, and in peripheral tissues including heart, adipose, testis, and kidney.
