| Adenoviruses are non-enveloped viruses with a linear double-stranded DNA genome belonging to the Adenoviridae family. The virion also has a unique spike or fibre associated with each penton base of the capsid that aids in attachment to the host cell via the coxsackie-adenovirus receptor on the surface of the host cell. They are commonly used as vectors for in vitro as well as in vivo gene transfer to a number of different tissues. There are 51 identified serotypes of human adenovirus, divided into six species (A-F), each with a different tropism. The most commonly used adenovirus vector systems are based on adenovirus serotypes 2 and 5 (Ad2 and Ad5), both belonging to species C. Most infections with adenovirus result in infections of the upper respiratory tract. Adenovirus infections also show up as conjunctivitis, tonsilitis viral meningitis or encephalitis, bronchiolitis or pneumonia. | | | Catalog # | A0876-48A | | The adenovirus early gene products E1A is a potent stimulator of cellular proliferation, which when overexpressed can overcome the growth-inhibitory effects of TGF-beta. The E1A region encodes a series of related proteins (35-46kD) with multifunctional capabilities and forms a specific complex with the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor gene product. The E1a and E1B regions together comprise the transforming region of adenovirus. While expression of E1A alone is sufficient to immortalize primary cells, complete transformation requires the additional expression of the E1B region. | | Applications | Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. | | Recommended Dilution | Immunohistochemistry (formalin fixed paraffin embedded): 1:50-1:75 | | Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. | | Positive Control | Adenovirus infected tissue | | Storage and Stability | May be stored at 4°C for short-term only.
