Human adrenomedullin is a 52aa peptide with the physiological effect of lowering blood pressure through vasodilatation, an effect it shares with calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). In addition adrenomedullin has other cardiovascular effects including growth and development of both cardiovascular tissues and bone, and has effects in the central nervous system connected with the regulation of fluid balance.
