| Aggrecan, together with type II collagen, makes up to 90% of the dry weight of healthy cartilage. It hydrates the collagen network and thus provides cartilage with its properties of compressibility and elasticity. The N-terminal region of human Aggrecan (residues 20-675) consists of two globular domains (G1 and G2), flanking an interglobular domain (IGD).
