Human serum albumin (HSA) consists of a single polypeptide chain of 584 aminoacids, stabilized by 17 disulfide bridges. HSA is the most common protein in serum, it is produced in the liver and the concentration in serum is 35-50mg/ml. HSA is often used as a carrier molecule because of its binding capacity, and thus mainly functions as the regulator of the colloidal osmotic pressure of the blood. The molecular weight is 67.5kD (1).

Storage and StabilityMay be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage, store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

ImmunogenDenatured HSA isolated from human plasma.
SpecificityHas specificity for native and denatured human serum albumin (HSA). Reacts strongly with native and denatured HSA. Strong reaction is seen in ELISA with native or denatured HSA directly coated onto the microtiterwell. In Western blotting after SDS-PAGE, this antibody reacts with native and denatured HSA in non-reduced form only. Epitope specificity differs from those of clones 6F11 and 6F12 but overlaps as determined by inhibition ELISA.
