Amies fomulated a medium for transport of microorganisms using a balanced salt solution. Amies Medium with Charcoal is a non-nutritional, phosphate buffered type medium used to maintian the viablilty of microorganisms without a significant increase in growth.

DescriptionAmies formulated a medium for transport of microorganisms using a balanced salt solution. Amies Broth with Charcoal is a non-nutritional, phosphate buffered type medium used to maintain the viability of microorganisms without a significant increase in growth. Charcoal was added to the formulation to neutralize the toxic effects of a fatty acids that are toxic to microorganisms. This medium is recommended for throat, vaginal, and wound samples.
StorageStore the sealed bottle containing the dehydrated medium at 2 to 30.0°C. Once opened and recapped, place the container in a low humidity environment at the same storage temperature. Protect it from moisture and light. The dehydrated medium should be discarded if it is not free flowing or if the color has changed from the original light beige color.
