| AMPK1 acts as a central regulator of cellular metabolism for which it serves as an energy sensor, the enzyme is activated by a reduction of ATP/AMP levels, changes in intracellular calcium, and other forms of stress, including ischemia and hypoxia. The protein is at the center of control for a large number of metabolic reactions, thereby playing a crucial role in Type 2 diabetes and other human diseases The protein is also crucial for cell polarity and mitosis as confirmed by recent studies. AMPK1 is thus a key energy sensor, known to regulate energy metabolism in diverse cell types. Structurally heterotrimeric AMPK contains a catalytic alpha-subunit, encoded by two genes (alpha1 and alpha2). The protein is usually present in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Human AMPK1 gene is mapped to chromosomal region 5p12. | | | Catalog # | A1475-06J | | Applications | Suitable for use in Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry.
