b-Amyloid protein is thought to play a causal role in the development of Alzheimer's disease. Amyloid-b protein is variably cleaved at the C-terminus to form peptides 39-43aa in length. Anti-amyloid-b1-40 (MW ~32kD) recognizes only 1-40 portion of the protein and not the b-Amyloid precursor.
