| Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is characterized by the presence of extracellular plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) in the brain. The major component of these plaques is Ab peptide (b-amyloid), a 40 to 43 amino acid peptide cleaved from amyloid precursor protein (APP). Increased release of the ‘longer forms’ of Ab peptide, Ab42 or Ab43, which have a greater tendency to aggregate than Ab40, occurs in individuals expressing certain genetic mutations, expressing certain ApoE alleles, or may involve other, still undiscovered, factors. Many researchers theorize that this increased release of Ab42/Ab43 leads to the abnormal deposition of Ab and the associated neurotoxicity in the brains of affected individuals. | | | Catalog # | A2275-74E | | Applications | Suitable for use in RIA, ELISA, and Dot Blot. Other applications not tested. | | Recommended Dilution | Dot Blot: 0.05-1mg/ml | | Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. | | Storage and Stability | May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot and add glycerol (40-50%). Freeze at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | | CAS Number | n/a | | Clone Type | Polyclonal | | Host | Rabbit | | Source | Human | | Concentration | ~1mg/ml | | Form | Supplied as a liquid in phosphate buffer, pH 7.4. Carrier and preservative free. | | Purity | Purified from rabbit serum by epitope-specific affinity chromatography. Any reactivity towards both full length b-amyloid 1-40 and b-amyloid 1-43 peptide has been eliminated through preabsorption steps. | | Immunogen | B-amyloid 42 protein. | | Specificity | No significant crossreactivity of beta amyloid 40 or beta amyloid 43 has been observed. Species crossreactivity: Human, mouse and rat. | | | Important Note | This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological. |
