| ATG5L is a 275aa protein belonging to the ATG5 family and is required for autophagy. It plays an important role in the apoptotic process, within the modified cytoskeleton. It is known to function in autophagy, contributes to autophagic cell death by interacting with Fas-associated protein with death domain (FADD). It conjugates to ATG12 and associates with isolation membrane to form cup-shaped isolation membrane and autophagosome. Down-regulation of its expression in HeLa cells suppresses cell death and vacuole formation induced by IFN-gamma.
