| Lipoproteins are responsible for carrying cholesterol and other fats through the bloodstream as little packages and are essential for the normal breakdown of these molecules. In particular, apolipoprotein E is a major component of specific lipoproteins called very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL). A major function of VLDLs is to remove excess cholesterol from the blood and carry it to the liver for processing. Maintaining normal levels of cholesterol is essential for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes. Apolipoprotein E is a type of lipoprotein. Apolipoprotein E is associated with several cardiovascular disorders. There are three isoforms (slightly different forms) of the ApoE lipoprotein. These three isoforms are known as ApoE2, E3 and E4. ApoE2 seems to be one of several genetic factors that plays a part in increased risk of heart attacks and strokes and ApoE4 is a risk factor for coronary artery disease. As well, ApoE4 has been been suggested to play a role in type 2 Alzheimer’s disease. | | | Catalog # | A2299-74C | | Applications | Suitable for use in ELISA and Immunohistochemistry. For depletion experiments the antibody should be used in a solid phase system. Other applications not tested. | | Recommended Dilution | ELISA: 1:1000 | | Immunohistochemistry (frozen): 1:100 | | Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. | | Storage and Stability | Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | | CAS Number | n/a | | Clone Type | Monoclonal | | Isotype | IgG1 | | Clone No | 3D12 | | Host | Mouse | | Source | Human | | Concentration | ~0.5mg/ml (after reconstitution) | | Form | Supplied as a lyophilized powder. Reconstitute with 1ml sterile ddH2O. | | Purity | Purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation and DEAE chromatography. | | Immunogen | Human Apo-E from plasma | | Specificity | Recognizes human Apo-E.
