| Aprotinin inhibits the activity of several proteolytic enzymes such as chymotrypsin, kallikrein, plasmin and trypsin. It is present in blood and in most tissues, with a high concentration in lung. It inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokine release and maintains glycoprotein homeostasis. In platelets, aprotinin reduces glycoprotein loss (e.g., GpIb, GpIIb/IIIa), while in granulocytes it prevents the expression of pro-inflammatory adhesive glycoproteins (e.g., CD11b). | | | Catalog # | A2300-07 | | Recombinant Bovine Aprotinin is approximately 6.51kD highly purified and designed specifically for cell culture applications, protein purification, diagnostic testing and pharmaceuticals. It is produced without the use of animal- or human-derived materials and is therefore free from risk of contaminating human or animal-derived viruses or prions. | | Biological Activity | ~4.6 TIU/mg | | Unit Defenition | One Trypsin Inhibitory Unit (TIU) is equal to the amount of inhibitor with the ability to inhibit two trypsin units by 50% where one trypsin unit will hydrolyze 1.0 µmole of N-alpha-benzoyl-DL-Arginine-p-Nitroanilide (BAPNA) per minute at pH 7.8 at 25°C. | | Storage and Stability | Lyophilized powder may be stored at 4°C. Stable for 12 months at 4ºC. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot and store at 4°C. Do not freeze. Stable for 6 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | | Molecular Weight | 6.51kD | | Source | Maize (Corn) | | Purity | ~90% (SDS-PAGE) | | Concentration | As reported | | Form | Supplied as a lyophilized powder without additives. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O to a concentration of 100ug/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions. | | | Important Note | This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological. |
