| Selective medium for Streptococci when blood is added. | | | Catalog # | A5000 | | Use | Azide Blood Agar Base supplemented with blood is used for the isolation and enumeration of streptococci and staphylococci from clinical specimens and sanitary materials. | | Description | Azide Blood Agar contains Sodium Azide which inhibits Gram negative while allowing the growth of Gram positive bacteria. Blood is added to the medium to determine hemolytic patterns. Casein Digest Peptone and Beef Extract provide nitrogen, vitamins, carbon, and amino acids. Sodium Chloride maintains osmotic balance.
