Benzoylecgonine is the predominant cocaine metabolite. The compound is not biologically active, but is used as an indicator of cocaine use.

Storage and StabilityStore at 4°C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt at 4°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. Labeled with horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Sodium azide is a potent inhibitor of peroxidase and should not be added to HRP conjugates. HRP conjugates are sensitive to light.
