| Normal mammalian development requires both maternal and paternal contributions to the genome for complete gene expression. Several new imprinted genes that are expressed at the blastocyst stage are being identified-one of them being the brain-expressed X-linked gene2. The human chromosomal region containing the BEX genes has revealed at least 16 diseases or syndromes.
