BMP-2 belongs to the bone morphogenetic protein family, a subgroup of the TGF-beta superfamily. BMP-2 is important during embryogenesis especially for skeletal developement and induces chondrocytes formation and osteoblast differentation. BMPs are involved in dorsal-ventral patterning of the embryo and organogenesis.

ActivityThe specific activity was determined by its ability to induce alkaline phosphatase production in a dose response to BMP-2 in the ATDC-5 cell line (Mouse chondrogenic cell line).

Storage and StabilityLyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile 4mM HC, 0.1% endotoxin-free recombinant HSA. Aliquot and store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
