| Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) is one of nine structurally related BMPs within the transforming growth factor beta superfamily. BMP4 stimulates bone formation in adult mammals and also functions as a signaling molecule in embryonic nervous system, musculature and skeleton. It also seems involved with early tooth morphogenesis, and is expressed in prostate adenocarcinoma and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
