BrdU is a thymidine analogue and when offered to proliferating cells it is incroporated into reduplicating DNA.

ApplicationsSuitable for use in Immunofluorescence, Immunohistochemistry and Immunocytochemistry. Other applications not tested.
Recommended DilutionImmunohistochemistry (Frozen, paraffin): 1:5-1:10 Dilute in 0.15M PBS, 1% BSA, 1% sodium-azide. Requires protease digestion of paraffin sections.
Immunocytochemistry: Pulse labeling of dividing cells will allow the immunocytochemical identification of S-phase cells.
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Positive ControlImmunohistochemistry: Bromodeoxyuridine labeled cells.
Storage and StabilityMay be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

SpecificityRecognizes DNA in which BrdU has been incorporated. Reacts strongly with free or carrier-protein coupled BrdU but not with other nucleosides. Recognizes BrdU in denaturated (single stranded) DNA. 100% crossreactive with Jodo-Deoxy-Uridine (IrdU).
