| The L-type calcium channel is composed of four subunits: alpha-1, alpha-2, beta and gamma. The beta subunit of voltage-dependent calcium channels aids the function of the calcium channel by increasing the peak calcium current, shifting the voltage dependencies of activation and inactivation, modulating G protein inhibition and controlling the alpha-1 subunit membrane targeting. CAB2 is a membrane protein that is expressed in all tissues. The unprocessed precursor is 660 amino acids in length and has a predicted molecular weight of 74.5KDa. It belongs to the calcium channel beta subunit family and contains one SH3 domain.
