Clone Host Grade Applications
Monoclonal Rabbit Supernatant IH
Calcitonins (CTs) are a group of polypeptide hormones containing 32aa residues which share an amino terminal ring structure, with cysteines at 1 and 7 linked by a disulfide bridge, as well as a carboxy terminal prolinamide. It is usually synthesized in the parafollicular or C cells in the thyroid gland, and also in a wide variety of other tissues, including the lung and intestinal tract. It plays an active role in calcium homeostasis. A large number of diseases are associated with abnormally increased or decreased levels of calcitonin. Alternative RNA processing of human calcitonin: calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) gene generates two mRNAs encoding the precursors of calcitonin and CGRP. It is used in the treatment of bone loss disorders because it inhibits osteoclast function.
