The carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a member of a large family of glycoproteins and a useful tumor marker for adenocarcinoma. In the past, clinical utility of CEA antibodies in immunopathology has been limited by cross-reactivity with CEA-related antigens, particularly Non-Specific Cross-Reacting Antigen (NCA), in normal colon mucosa and human granulocytes.
