| CARMA1 is a 1154aa protein playing a major role in the activation of NF-kappa-B through BCL10 and IKK. It contains a caspase-associated recruitment domain (CARD) and is thus included in the CARD protein family, a guanylate kinase-like domain and a PDZ (DHR) domain. The domain structure is similar to that of CARD14 protein and belongs to a class of proteins known as the membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) family acting as molecular scaffolds. Binding of CARD11 and BCL10, a positive regulator of cell apoptosis and NF-kappaB activation, to each other occurs by CARD-CARD interaction and it stimulates the phosphorylation of BCL10.
