The catenins are polypeptides that bind to the conserved cytoplasmic tail of cadherins and are required for cadherin function (2). a-catenin is a 102kD protein that is associated with the cadherin indirectly through its interaction with b-catenin and g-catenin (3). b-Catenin and its homolog plakoglobin associate directly with the cadherin (4). Thus, the cell-cell adherens junction is a structure composed of the transmembrane cadherin, which is associated directly with either b-catenin or plakoglobin, which in turn assoctiates directly with a-catenin. a- catenin then mediates the interaction between the cadherin-catenin complex and the actin cytoskeleton (5,6). a-catenin has been characterized as a tumor suppressor, suggesting that it may have a regulatory function in regulation to its structural role (7).

Immunoblot Analysis	0.5–2ug/ml detects delta Catenin in rat brain microsomes. Rat brain microsomes were resolved by electrophoresis, transferred to nitrocellulose and probed with anti-delta-Catenin (0.5ug/ml). Proteins were visualized using a goat anti-rabbit secondary antibody conjugated to HRP and a chemiluminescence detection system.
