CD21, an antigen with MW:150kD. CD21 is also known as CR2, complement receptor 2, Epstein Barr virus receptor (EBV-R) and C3d receptor. CD21 is expressed by certain B cells, follicular dendritic cells and a subset of immature thymocytes. CD21 serves as the receptor C3d, C3g and iC3band also as the receptor for Epstein Barr virus. CD21 is expressed on all mature circulating B lymphocytes but not on T lymphocytes or natural killer cells.1 Low density CD21 has also been reported on granulocytes and monocytes.
