| CEACAM5 (CEA-related cell adhesion molecule 5, CEA) belongs to the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) gene family (5). It encodes a glycosyl phosphatidyl inositol (GPI)- linked glycoprotein with a Mr of 180,000-200,000 which is most strongly expressed on epithelial cells of the fetal and adult colon and to a minor extent on epithelial cells of the stomach and sweat glands, squamous epithelial cell of the tongue, esophagus and cervix. CEACAM5 is used as a tumor marker for early detection of recurrent disease due its expression in adenocarcinomas of the colon, lung, breast, stomach and pancreas and in mucinous ovarian carcinomas (5). Like all members of the CEACAM family, it consists of a single N domain, with structural homology to the immunoglobulin variable domains, followed by six immunoglobulin constant-like A (A1, A2, A3) and B domains (B1, B2, B3). | | | Catalog # | C2589-76 | | Applications | Suitable for use in Flow Cytometry, ELISA, Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. It is expected that the antibody will be suited for all applications where recognition of the native protein is required. Other applications not tested. | | Recommended Dilution | Immunohistochemistry: Frozen. | | Optimal dilution determined by the researcher. | | Storage and Stability | May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage, store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | | CAS Number | n/a | | Clone Type | Monoclonal | | Isotype | IgG1 | | Clone No | 5E504 | | Host | Mouse | | Source | Human | | Concentration | ~1mg/ml | | Form | Supplied as a liquid in PBS, pH 7.2, 0.01% sodium azide before the addition of glycerol to 40%. | | Purity | Purified by Protein G affinity chromatography. | | Immunogen | Immunization of BALB/c mice with a CEA partially purified from a perchloric acid extract from liver metastases of colonic tumors (8). | | Specificity | Recognizes exclusively CEACAM5 transiently expressed on the cell surface of transfected BOSC cells. 26/3/13 can be used to distinguish CEACAM5 from all other CEACAM and probably all pregnancy-specific glycoproteins molecules, namely CEACAM1, CEACAM3, CEACAM4, CEACAM6, CEACAM7, CEACAM8 and PSG1 based on its reactivity pattern with stable HeLa transfectants expressing individual CEA family members. 26/3/13 was included and characterized in the studies from the VIth Leucocyte Typing Workshop (5). | | | Important Note | This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological. |
