CHK1 prevents entry into mitosis when damaged or unligated DNA is detected by phosphorylating cdc25a, cdc25b, and cdc25c. Phosphorylation of cdc25c creates a binding site for protein 14-3-3, which inhibits cdc25c and prevents activation of the cdc2-cyclin b complex.
