Chloramphenicol Acetyltransferase (CAT) is suitable for use in cell extract assays. CAT, encoded by Tn9, catalyzes the transfer of an acetyl group from acetyl-CoA to the 3-hydroxy position of chloramphenicol.

Unit DefinitionOne unit is defined as the amount of enzyme required to transfer 1nmol of acetyl-CoA or butyryl-CoA to chloramphenicol in one minute at 37°C.
Storage and StabilityMay be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage, store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
