Clathrin consists of three heavy chain (192kD) and three light chains (LCa or LCb, 25-29kD) and self-assembles into a polyhedral cytoskeletal element. Self-assembly facilitates clathrin’s central role in membrane sorting and selective transport within the cell.

Storage and Stability	Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute by adding sterile 40-50% glycerol, ddH2O. Aliquot and store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Immunogen	Coated vesicles (clathrin) of bovine brain.
Specificity	Recognizes the clathrin heavy chain from a diverse range of species. In nervous tissue it crossreacts with another coated vesicle polypeptide of 190kD which is not present in isolated clathrin triskelions. In some epithelial cells of certain species the antibody may crossreact with a cytokeratin component. It detects coated vesicles from different organs and tissues (e.g. brain, ovary, mammary gland). Species Crossreactivity: Human, bovine, rat and amphibian.
