| Clathrin is the main structural component of the lattice covering the cytoplasmic face of the coated pits and coated vesicles in which specific macromolecules are entrapped in the process of receptor-mediated endocytosis. Clathrin is a large, soluble protein composed of heavy chains and light chains. Two genes encode the clathrin light chain proteins. The light chains are believed to be regulatory elements in clathrin function. The brain-specific light chain variant contains an insert encoding 18aa immediately downstream of the region encoding the heavy chain binding domain. | | | Catalog # | C5835-09 | | Source | E. coli | | Applications | Suitable for use as an assay standard in immunological techniques.
