Collagen is an inert, rigid protein found predominantly in skin, ligaments, bones and teeth. Its most distinctive attribute, essential to a transmitter of mechanical force, is inelasticity. Its fundamental structural unit is tropo-collagen, a molecular rod about 2600Å in length and 15Å in diameter and 300kD molecular weight. In tendons these macromolecules, grouped as collagen fibrils, run parallel to the axis. In skin the fibrils are interlaced and branched.

Applications	Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry and ELISA. Does not work with Western Blot. Other applications have not been tested.
Recommended Dilutions	Immunohistochemistry (Frozen): 10-20ug/ml. Formaldehyde xation is not recommended. Not suitable for use on paraf n embedded sections. Staining of 10um thick cryostat sections xed with acetone or ethanol. Staining is similar to that for polyclonal antibodies to interstitial collagen I.
	ELISA: Apparent binding constant from titration curves is approximately 0.1nM. Suitable for use in sandwich ELISA for speci c determination of collagen I, employed as either a capture antibody or as a second, detecting antibody.
	Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.

Storage and Stability	Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
