| Cytochrome C Oxidase (COX), which is located in the inner mitochondrial membrane, is the terminal enzyme complex of the mitochondrial electron transport chain. It collects electrons that are transferred from reduced Cytochrome C and donates them to molecular oxygen, which is then reduced to water. |
|
| Antibodies to this protein make an effective loading control for mitochondria. COXIV (COX4 )is generally expressed at a consistently high level. However, be aware that many proteins run at the same molecular weight as COXIV. Some caution is required when using antibodies to this protein as a loading control, as COXIV expression can vary under some manipulations. |
