| C-reactive protein is an acute phase protein, synthesized in the liver. Its molecular weight is about 140000. It occurs in serum of healthy men in low concentrations, <1.2mg/ml. In cases of bacterial infection, surgical trauma and Hodgkins disease, the concentration is highly increased.
