| Displays several functions associated with host defense: it promotes agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation through its calcium-dependent binding to hosphorylcholine. Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells. COFACTOR: Binds 2 calcium ions per subunit. SUBUNIT: Homopentamer. Pentaxin (or pentraxin) have a discoid arrangement of 5 non-covalently bound subunits. This protein owes its name to its ability precipitate pneumococcal C-polysaccharide in the presence of calcium. Belongs to the pentaxin family. Contains 1 pentaxin domain. | | | Catalog # | C7907-04C | | Cellular Localization | Secreted protein. | | Alternative Products | 2 named isoforms produced by alternative splicing. | | Tissue Specificity | Found in plasma. The concentration of CRP in plasma increases greatly during acute phase response to tissue injury, infection or other inflammatory stimuli. It is induced by IL-1 and IL-6. | | Applications | Suitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested. | | Recommended Dilution | Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. | | Storage and Stability | May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20°C.
