| Cytohesin-1 is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor and an integrin binding protein belonging to a closely related group of proteins known as the cytohesion family. Cytohesin-1 contains 2 domains; a C-terminal, pleckstrin homology (PH) domain, and a central, large Sec7 domain. The PH domain serves to mediate the proteins functional regulation and the reversible membrane recruitment. The Sec7 domain acts as the primary regulator for phosphoinositide-dependent membrane attachment of the protein. Cytohesin-1 appears to have an integral role in integrin alphaLbeta2 adhesive function, and in the activation of integrin mediated pathways involved in wound healing, and immune system cell-cell/ cell-matrix interactions. It is highly expressed in natural killer and peripheral T cells.
