| Cytokeratin 5 and 6 are known as high molecular weight cytokeratins (58kD and 56kD respectively) and are part of the basic (type II) subfamily of cytokeratins. These two cytokeratins are closely related and they are found in non-keratinizing strati ed squamous epithelia, epithelia of trachea, apocrine and sweat glands of skin, epidermis, hair follicles and mammary glands.
