| DMP-1 (dentin matrix protein 1) is an acidic, 100-160kD member of the phosphophoryn family of extracellular matrix proteins. Mouse DMP-1 is found both intra- and extracellularly, where phosphorylated DMP-1 participates in bone mineralization. Secreted mature mouse DMP-1 is a 487aa proteoglycan. It contains multiple serine, glutamic acid, and aspartic acid residues, a GAG attachment site (aa71-72) and an RGD motif (aa350-352). Multiple cleavage sites exist between aa’s205-253, creating multiple fragments approximately 37kD and 57kD in size.
