| Epitope tags are short peptide sequences that are easily recognized by tag-specific antibodies. Due to their small size, epitope tags do not affect the tagged protein’s biochemical properties. Most often sequences encoding the epitope tag are included with target DNA at the time of cloning to produce fusion proteins containing the epitope tag sequence. This allows anti-epitope tag antibodies to serve as universal detection reagents for any tag containing protein produced by recombinant means. This means that anti-epitope tag antibodies are a useful alternative to generating specific antibodies to identify, immunoprecipitate or immunoaffinity purify a recombinant protein. The anti-epitope tag antibody is usually functional in a variety of antibody-dependent experimental procedures. Expression vectors producing epitope tag fusion proteins are available for a variety of host expression systems including bacteria, yeast, insect and mammalian cells. | | | Catalog # | E2000-09 | | Applications | Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. | | Recommended Dilution | ELISA: 1:10,000-1:50,000 | | Western Blot: 1:1000-1:5000 | | Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. | | Storage and Stability | May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot and add glycerol (40-50%). Freeze at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | | CAS Number | n/a | | Clone Type | Polyclonal | | Host | Rabbit | | Concentration | ~0.7mg/ml | | Form | Supplied as a liquid in PBS, pH 7.2, 0.01% sodium azide. No stabilizing proteins added. | | Purity | Purified by immunoaffinity chromatography. | | Immunogen | FLAG epitope tag peptide DYKDDDDK (Asp-Tyr-Lys-Asp-Asp-Asp-Asp-Lys) conjugated to KLH using maleimide. Residues of glycine and cysteine were added to the carboxy terminal end to facilitate coupling. | | Specificity | Recognizes the FLAG epitope tag fused to the amino-terminus of targeted proteins. Reacts with all amino-terminal FLAG tagged proteins so far tested. No reactivity is seen against fusion proteins containing the FLAG epitope tag at the carboxy-terminus. In western blotting of bacterial extracts the antibody does not cross-react with endogenous proteins. | | | Important Note | This product as supplied is intended for research use only, not for use in human, therapeutic or diagnostic applications without the expressed written authorization of United States Biological. |
