EIF2AK3, a Translational Control type protein kinase, is believed to mediate phosphorylation of eIF2-alpha in response to malfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum. Diabetes and Wolcott-Rallison syndrome (WRS) are linked to the mutations in the EIF2AK3 gene.
