ActivityED50 <0.5 ng/ml (> 2 x 106units/mg), determined by the dose dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by BaF3 cells expressing FGF-receptors. FGF-9 is a heparin binding growth factor that has principal activity in and on, nervous tissue. Cells known to express FGF-9 include prostatic stromal cells, neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes and fetal skeletal myoblasts, ventricular myocardium, gut lumenal epithelium and olfactory bulb. It is also known as glial-activating factor (GAF).
