Fingolimod (FTY720), a sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) analog, is a novel immunosuppressant drug that induces lymphopenia by preventing emergence of lymphocytes from lymph nodes. Fingolimod is a sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor 1 modulator and is in phase III clinical trials for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.

Solubility
Soluble in DMSO at 100mg/ml; soluble in ethanol at 100mg/ml; very poorly soluble in water. Up to 25ul of a solution of 13.8mg/ml (40mM) F4513-40 in 100% DMSO can be diluted into 5ml of plain water without precipitation, giving a final concentration of 200uM. In contrast, even a 1:1000 dilution of the same 13.8mg/ml DMSO stock solution into 10mM PBS, pH 7 results in a precipitate. Thus, F4513-40 solubility in PBS is likely to be well below 100uM, perhaps as low as 1-10ug/ml. Either DMSO, ethanol or plain water should be used as the solvent until the final dilution is made into culture medium
