| In non-erythroid cells, a spectrin-like protein has been identified as fodrin and found to contain two subunits (alpha subunit of M.W. 240kD and beta subunit of M.W. 235kD). Fodrin is believed to be involved in 1) stabilizing membrane structure; 2) maintaining cell shape; 3) linking the cytoskeleton to plasma membranes or intracellular vesicles.
