| Folic acid, also known as folate, is a water soluble B-vitamin that occurs naturally in may leafy foods like spinach. Folate is necessary for the production and maintenance of new cells. This is especially important during periods of rapid cell division and growth such as infancy and pregnancy. If women have enough of it in their bodies before pregnancy, this vitamin can decrease the risk for neural tube defects (NTDs), which are birth defects of the baby's brain (anencephaly) or spine (spina bifida). Folate is needed to make DNA and RNA, the building blocks of cells. It also helps prevent changes to DNA that may lead to cancer. | | | Catalog # | F5800-12C | | Applications | Suitable for use in ELISA.
