| Description: Galectins are a family of beta-galactoside-binding animal lectins that are associated with diverse cellular events, including immune response. Glectin-3 has previously been identified in rat, mouse and human tissues and is evolutionarily highly conserved. It is an abundant cell-surface component of inflammatory macrophages and their major non-integrin laminin-binding protein. It is also mainly expressed in colonic epithelial cells.
